OUR HISTORY

St Nicholas of Myra was the patron saint and protector of children and sailors. He was a devout Christian man, known for his generosity and kindness. The legend of Saint Nicholas tells how he secretly gave three bags of gold to a poor man to provide dowries for his three daughters, saving them from a life of poverty and destitution.

St Nicholas Diocesan School was started to provide affordable, quality education for children disadvantaged by the political system of the time. So, what better name to choose for a school that was to help children and give them the gift of quality education than St Nicholas?

When designing the badge for the school, we incorporated three gold discs as a symbol to remind us of the patron saint’s generosity and kindness.

The star is to remind us that God revealed His Son to the world when a star shone over the birthplace of Jesus.

The wreath represents the academic excellence that we strive for.

The cross symbolizes Christianity, representing faith, hope, and Christ’s sacrifice. It serves as a reminder of Christian ideals, such as hope, salvation, and God’s love, and signifies our founders’ vision.

It is hoped that, as a school, we remain faithful to our Christian faith and remain steadfast in our motto, God Leads, and we will follow.

At the heart of St Nicholas is our Christian faith. This is reflected in our motto – GOD LEADS. Our Anglican ethos is nurtured in class and school devotions, as well as regular Eucharists.

With well-equipped media centres and computer rooms, a music centre, an art studio, science labs, basketball courts, sports fields, a lovely pool, boarding establishments and an Indoor Sports Centre – our children have everything they need to learn, grow and flourish.

Cocurricular activities include participation in most major sporting codes but also allow for those with diverse interests such as dance, drama, marimbas and steel drums, choir, community outreach and Interact, Eco club, debating, chess and gaming, to shine in their chosen field. Excursions and Grade camps are a regular occurrence in all spheres of life at St Nicholas. We unveiled our “Makerspace” Workshop/Art Studio in honour of our 30th Anniversary. It provides our learners with a venue for combining creativity with practical application.

Our highly qualified staff contingent are effective teachers of 21st century skills (critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, problem-solving, perseverance, technology skills and digital literacy). Committed to going the extra mile, we ensure that each learner is supported in reaching their full potential.

St Nicholas is a safe place for young minds and spirits. Our teachers focus on incorporating Christian values and ethics into daily education routines, with the aim of producing well-rounded individuals. We are fortunate to have the services of a school Chaplain, school Counsellor and Psychologist who assist in looking after the pastoral needs of our children.

Boarding is offered from Grade 6 to 12 at St Nicholas. Our school has a well-established boarding culture with separate establishments for boys and girls, that comprises of separate houses for our juniors and seniors. Our dedicated boarding staff ensure that our boarders have a structured routine, nutritious meals, weekly church services, youth programmes, educational outings and a true sense of family.

At St Nicholas, we welcome learners of all races, faiths, languages, socio-economic backgrounds or places of origin. The only criterion for acceptance is that the learner will benefit from a St Nicholas education and subscribe to our ethos. We strive to offer a holistic education in a secure and caring environment where all children are given abundant opportunities to realise their potential. We have an active and engaged school board and parent community and we are delighted to see generations of families pass through our school.
